Emotron Active Front End Drives are available in two versions: Low Harmonic and Regenerative Drives. Both are based on standard Emotron AC Drives (VFX), offering the same reliability, user-friendliness and advanced functionality. AFE Drives are delivered as complete solutions in NEMA 4 / IP54 classified cabinets.

The high-performing AFE is now even better! A new compact slim PEBB design in combination with a new water cooling system provides up to 100% higher power density compared with previous AFE Drives.

Trouble-Free Operation

Emotron AFE Drives produce extremely low harmonic distortions. They provide genuine unity power factor, and offer the possibility of reactive power compensation. The Drives are non-sensitive to voltage dips or harmonics from other equipment. Voltage boosting assures full motor power in case of mains voltage fluctuations.

Low Harmonic Distortions

Emotron Low Harmonic Drives typically produce less than THDI 5% compared to 30-50% in conventional Drives, thereby fulfilling the IEEE-519 standard. Reduced power losses eliminate the need for over dimension cables and transformers. Lower distortions also cause fewer malfunctions in other electronic equipment.

Regenerative Braking

Emotron Regenerative Drives, in addition to low harmonic distortions, offer considerable energy savings by feeding the braking energy back to the mains in applications such as cranes and centrifuges. The Drives are rated for four quadrant operation with 100% power in both directions ensuring continuous full braking power.

 

Reducing Size & total Cost

Exceptional Emotron AFE performance is no available in a greatly reduced size, delivering e.g., 2MW@690VAC in a cabinet only 11.8ft (3.6m) wide. The size reduction is possible thanks to a new state-of-the-art cooling system and the flexible modular PEBBs (power electronic building blocks) that are now even more compact.

Hassle-Free Cooling

The AFE’s new cooling system is easy to feed with industrial water from your own cooling system or through an optional water/water heat exchanger section delivered as part of your complete drive solution cabinet. The Emotron AFE has very low requirements on your water pressure, flow and temperature, with a maximum temperature of 95°F (35°C).

Maximizing Efficiency

Both the drive modules and the built-in LCL-filters guarantee low energy losses even at high powers. Emotron compact liquid cooled Low Harmonic and Regenerative AFE Drives have a THDI of <5% and an overall efficiency rating of 95%, which is higher than many other similar technologies that are available in the market.
